True sustainability is created through the use of less material, not the reuse of material.

Designers create many of the products that people consume within the capitalist consumer culture that we buy into as a society. Through the research done in this project, it was found that this cycle of consumption is one of the main factors that creates the global waste crisis that we currently face as a planet. Graphic tons is a publication that not only informs designers of the processes that feed into this culture, but it also empowers them with tools to become avid design activists, enabling them to make smarter sustainable design choices with the environment in mind.

The Changeposium

GraphicTons is meant to be a part of a traveling sustainability symposium called Changeposium. This symposium is hosted by a company called GreenBlue, which is an organization dedicated to supporting the development of sustainable materials and production processes through funding, grants and promotions.

GraphicTons Book

The GraphicTons book is a 300 page limited print publication. The only physical copy travels with the Changeposium and is displayed in an installation made of the paper waste that was created in the production of the book itself. At each Changeposium exhibition a live stream of the book being read is broadcasted on the Changeposium website for people around the world to read simultaneously.
